Compost Day at the War Memorial

Saturday 17th Feb - 10.30 onwards.

Clearing the site and digging in compost is the main task, preparing for the permanent planting (to be discussed in detail at our next meeting on 27th Feb, 7.30 in the Village Hall). You'll need to provide your own tools, and, of course, wellies.
We need plenty of helpers, even if you can only come for an hour. There is compost to collect from various places around the village, so if you have some surplus compost, manure or topsoil to donate, or can provide a trailer or some means of bringing it to the site, let us know - use the form on our 'Contact us' page.

Buckets of Potatoes!

The closing date for our fun potato growing competition is 10th February. Get your entries in early! We need a decent number of people taking part to ensure it is profitable, as the funds raised will cover some of our costs for planting the floral displays. Bulb planting

Thanks to the small group who put a massive effort into planting the spring bulbs kindly donated by South Somerset District Council. Most have been planted in the Twinning area and we look forward to an interesting display there next year. The bulbs will naturalise and should not interfere with the mowing and maintenance of the area. We're unsure of the mix of flowers and colours we'll see, but we are grateful to all concerned.

More pots needed

To finish clearing the plants from this year's display at the War Memorial for overwintering, we need more pots, preferably 3 litres (7" diam), like these. Patio troughs, planters or compost would also be useful, if you have any going spare.
If you have space in your greenhouse to overwinter some of these plants, do let us know.

Can you help?

Britain in Bloom focuses on Community involvement, Conservation and Environment, with only half the points allocated for the floral displays. To demonstrate this we need to build teams of helpers - not just the green fingered variety! 
So, if you have a talent for woodwork, art and design, photography, can add muscle for the heavier work required, sponsor a tree or display, research history, provide transport or want to consider a local initiative to improve your part of the village, do let us know, using our contact form.

Potato growing competition

CRiB is organising a competition to grow potatoes in a bucket. This is to raise funds for our floral displays, but should also be good fun.

There will be prizes for Juniors (12 and under) and Seniors (anyone over 13, including adults).
Planting kits will be available in February and judging will take place in August.
